On November 17, 2006, several members of the Tucson tango community met with the idea of forming an organization and having a purposeful conversation about the best ways to encourage growth in the community.
On October 10, 2007, the Tucson Tango Society's (TTS) application for Article of Incorporation as a 501(c)(3) was approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission. Elizabeth Hensley, Barry Gillaspie and Jennifer Gillaspie were its first interim office holders. Keith Gorley was the Statutory Agent. Former Presidents have been Mara Concordia and Sally Allison.
TTS has traditionally hosted a milonga's on the fifth Saturday of the month. On December 31, 2013, it hosted its First Annual New Year Eve Grand Milonga. Additionally, a milonga is panned for Halloween. "Theme" milongas have also been held.
In July 2013, a Free Milonga was added, as a membership benefit.
In July 2010, TTS began hosting a practica at the Dunbar Center.
